Ashley with her family
“I am so excited to share my story with you all! My name is Ashley Hensley, and I’m a mom to 3 amazing children. Two of whom came to me through the miracle of adoption. After I had my first one, we were told due to health issues I couldn’t carry any more children. It took us a few more years, but then we knew adoption was how we wanted to grow our family.
The first time we adopted, we had a very close relationship with the birth mom. We spoke on the phone daily, and Cassie was terrific! She asked me to be in the delivery room when Eli was born, and I was able to cut the cord. It was one of the most amazing moments of my life. Our adoption could not have gone smoother, and we stayed with Cassie while she was in the hospital, shared meals with her, met her family and stayed in touch, making it an open adoption.
After this experience, my husband and I knew we wanted to adopt again. Unfortunately, we were the product of a scam and had a failed adoption, which was horrible, and it broke our hearts. This was after meeting the family. I had a horrible feeling from the moment we matched for some reason, and I always wish I had followed my heart on that. This was the lowest part of our journey, and we didn’t know if we could emotionally move forward to try again. However, we pushed through, and three weeks later, we received a phone call from an adoption agency. They called and said a birth mom had chosen us and asked if we could be at the hospital to meet our baby girl. A few hours later, we were at the hospital holding our daughter. It was so fast and an amazing three days. This adoption was a closed adoption, different from our first adoption, but also perfect in every way. The feelings you have when you hold your baby for the first time outweigh all the bad feelings you could ever have.
We have been truly blessed by the gift of adoption and love to share our story to the world!
Currently, I’m a children’s clothing designer and women’s shoe designer. We have two companies that we started, alongside we began to the Seecaas Hope for Adoption Foundation. This foundation helps others with the financial aspects of adoption."
